(P) It has been a bit since I shared what is on my heart with you all. Honestly, it has been a pretty great few months, and I don't feel like I have much to tell. So I will go with a little summary of events and a few prayer requests.
Our move went as smoothly as we could have hoped and we are so blessed to be living with such a great family. This has also been a great opportunity for Alex and I to discuss things like discipline when in comes to raising kids. Personally, I have found that talking through some both trivial and critical ideas about parenting makes me feel that maybe I could actually to this thing they call being-a-mom one day... Our other big event from the past months was going home for Christmas! This was the first time we were able to make it home for the holiday since we were married. I do not think it would be a stretch to say both our families and us were looking forward to this with great anticipation for months in advance, and I am pleased to say that it lived up to expectations. We had an incredibly restful and encouraging trip spending time with our parents as well as Alex's sister and brother-in-law. (My sister was not home for Christmas, but that is because she was busy getting engaged!) We are truly blessed with the love of both our immediate and church families back in Iowa. Finally, I'll give you a little update on what is coming... well, at least what could be coming. Alex is due to finish school in roughly 6-8 months. Hooray!!! But this means a lot of decision making for us. Here is what we are thinking: A. Alex could continue on in his program for a few more months to complete his Certified Flight Instructor training. This would mean more school expense and hanging out in Spokane a while longer. However, this certification is highly recommended by all of the flight instructors who have already been overseas with mission organizations. At this point Alex would like to do this program, but the verdict is out on whether or not it will be feasible for us. B. If Alex is able to find a job in the Midwest we would love to be around family for a while before we move on to what God has for us next. Of coarse, this means Alex would need to actually find a job. When and where he finds one will determine if we stay for the CFI program, whether he will be able to build flight hours, and how close to family we will be. This obviously leaves us with a lot of unknowns, so prayer for wisdom and direction would be greatly appreciated!! C. For the past few years I have worked hard to support Alex in his studies. While I am grateful for this roll and for such a hard working husband, I am looking forward to having a little freedom to pursue my personal growth. I have recently thought about taking a few classes or pursuing a job that utilizes my social work degree. I have other ideas as well, but it is hard to know what I may be able to do now or have use for in the future. What it comes down to is that I have plenty of opportunities ahead, but would like a little wisdom about which to pursue and how to best use my time. So, if ever you think of Alex or I over the next few months we would love it if you would join us in taking these things to our Father. Thank you so much! We love you all, and hope you are staying warm this winter.
